Monza have officially confirmed the signing of Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez on a contract until the end of the 2023-24 season.
The 35-year-old arrives on a free transfer, having been without a club since terminating his contract with Sevilla a year before the summer transfer window.
Despite the initial denial of Gomez’s signing by the Monza board, he arrived in the city for a medical on Friday and later signed a nine-month contract.
Gomez has almost a decade of experience playing in Italy, first signing for Catania in the summer of 2010.
There he stayed for three seasons, before joining Metalist Kharkiv in Ukraine for the 2013–14 season.
A year after leaving Italy, the Argentine returned to join Atalanta for the most remarkable period of his career. While at Bergamo, Gomez recorded 50 Serie A goals from 209 appearances in a spell that spanned six and a half seasons.
