The Manchester City star says he would be a Real Madrid player today – but there was one thing stopping him

Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez admits he could easily play for Real Madrid.

The Argentine successfully completed a trial at Los Blanocs as an 11-year-old, but red tape prevented the striker from signing for Los Merengues.

“I was playing in the children’s championships. I was 11 years old and until a few years later Real Madrid could not sign me permanently”, he said initially.

“To do that, my whole family had to move there, so I decided to go back to Córdoba.”

Real scout Piero Foglia also recalled to Infobae: “He was not signed by the AFA (Argentine Football Association) and I dared to recommend him to a sporting director of Real Madrid because of a contact I had.”

“Julian was up to the task. He played in a tournament and became the champion. We had to wait until we were 16. If the same regulations had been in force as when Messi arrived at Barcelona, Julian Alvarez would be a Real Madrid player.”
