De Gea close to returning to the Premier League

David De Gea has been linked with a possible return to the Premier League, but not to Man United this time.

It is Newcastle who are considering a possible move for the Spanish goalkeeper following the serious injury suffered by their first choice goalkeeper, Nick Pope.

Pope was injured during the clash with Manchester United on Saturday night, injuring his arm. Medical tests carried out on the player have shown that he will remain out of action for at least five months.

This means he has potentially missed the rest of the season, so the Magpies are considering a move for De Gea, according to the Daily Mail .

De Gea has been without a club since leaving the Red Devils in the summer after his contract expired. He was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia during the summer transfer window, with Al-Nassr said to have shown an interest in him.

Messi’s Inter Miami was also believed to be interested in his services, but there was nothing concrete and the transfer did not happen.

Apart from the possibility of a return to the Premier League, De Gea also has an offer from Al-Ettifaq which is managed by English legend Steven Gerrard.

Pope has kept the most clean sheets so far in the Premier League, so this injury was a big ‘blow’ for both the club and the English national team, because it will doubt his presence at Euro 2024
